North Star hires 20-year seafood pro Lenos to head up merchandising - Undercurrent News

North Star Seafood of South Florida, a Pompano Beach-based distributor acquired by the Sysco Corp. in early 2016, on Friday announced the hiring of 20-year seafood veteran Steven Leno as its new director of merchandising.  

Lenos joins North Star after working most recently for Ore-Cal, a Los Angeles, California-based shrimp importer, according to his LinkedIn profile. Lenos held titles there as vice president of procurement and vice president of operations and procurement.

Other stints include director of global source at Great American Seafood Imports and regional sales manager at Phillips Foods. He worked for Sysco as a seafood product manager for more than three years from late 2010 until early 2014, according to his profile.

Lenos, who grew up in Ohio, was former president in his class of future leaders at the National Fisheries Institute, the press release notes. 

 “My first seafood experience was cutting whole fish and primal cuts of beef with my father in restaurants at the age of 14," said Lenos in a press release. "Pops taught me to always look for quality in your proteins! He is a retired chef, but his passion was infectious, and mine has been for seafood for more years than I care to admit. 

Sysco, in May, moved Eric Buckner over from his position as senior director of merchandising for the parent corporation, in Houston, Texas, to serve as president of North Star, as reported earlier by Undercurrent News.
